Jean-François Legendre-Héral created the statue of Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu in 1842. It can be found on top of the stairs outside the Botany building in Jardin des Plantes.
Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748 - 1836) was a plant taxonomist. Following the method of Michel Adanson, but keeping the binomial nomenclature of Linnaeus, he classified a vast number of plants. Most plants today are still grouped in the classes and families identified by him.
